Expertise

Dr. Limpert is a multidisciplinary social scientist and qualitative researcher who favors working across disciplines in the social and biophysical sciences. Her scholarly work investigates sites of informal education and examines the role of culture and society in shaping human thought and action, especially where environmental behaviors, attitudes, and practices are concerned. Dr. Limpert teaches and writes about EcoCinema and popular culture, gender, identity, and power, sociology, critical pedagogy, and qualitative research.

Expertise: Cultural Foundations of Education, Syracuse University Gender, schooling, and popular culture, urban community engagement and advocacy, youth climate activism, ethnographic and participatory action research, environmental cinema studies, environmental dimensions of violence and militarization, social media and public perceptions of environmental threats and ecosystem health.

​My interdisciplinary research explores sites of informal education to better understand how practices, activities, and place shape individual and group identity, knowledge production, and civic engagement.

Currently, my work focuses on fostering interdisciplinary college-community partnerships that support youth leadership, civic engagement, and safe and sustainable urban communities in Syracuse, New York. In addition, I examine environmental and gendered dimensions of popular culture with an emphasis on animated and Hollywood films.
