Expertise

Julie is an environmental microbiologist interested in using the microbes that inhabit natural environments (like fresh water) and engineered environments (concrete, wastewater) to solve problems. We use genomic and metagenomic sequencing, genetic engineering, and physiological experiments to figure out what genes allow bacteria to inhabit different environmental niches.
