Abstract
Archaeological monitoring of the foundations took place between 21st and 23rd June 2021. A further visit was undertaken on 28th June to monitor the trench for the drainage system. The initial stage of work involved monitoring the removal of paving slabs in the garden area, before the foundations were excavated. Due to the shallow nature of the wall foundations, the footprint of the extension was excavated to a depth of 450mm. A drainage trench, also dug to a maximum depth of 450mm was also monitored. As anticipated, due to the relatively shallow depth of the groundworks associated with the foundations and drainage trench, there were no archaeological deposits or finds recorded. Although it is possible that any Romano-British demolition rubble (and the 'dark-earth' often recorded sealing this material) had been removed as part of the house building, the shallow depth of the groundworks means that these deposits may still survive within the site area.
