The Cation Denudation Rate as a Quantitative Index of Sensitivity of Eastern Canadian Rivers to Acidic Atmospheric Precipitation

Abstract

The impact of acid precipitation on rivers in Nova Scotia and newfoundland was studied by chemical monitoring. Rivers were chosen on the basis of their water hardness, location, lack of local pollutant inputs, and availability of discharge data. Data for major ions, ph, color, discharge, and conductance were obtained and subjected to Quality control testing.
