Abstract
This study explores the perception of stakeholders in regard to the pyrolysis process as a way to manage waste tire in Bucaramanga and its Metropolitan area in order to comply with EPR regulation. In this case study, the researcher follows the sSWOT framework based on stakeholder’s perceptions. Analysis is based on available data and interviews conducted in Bogotá and Bucaramanga in mid-2014. Findings indicate that there is a basic level of knowledge but positive perception from stakeholders regarding the pyrolysis process and its application to scrap tires. However, they would rather to be more knowledgeable about the impacts of pyrolysis process and compare those within impacts generated by other types of tire waste management in order to make more informed decisions. Based on a sSWOT matrix, one should collaborate with stakeholders in order to consider pyrolysis of scrap tires as a feasible way to address waste tire management by advancing regulations related to this industry, developing a communication plan that inform civil society about the facts of this process, and developing research about pyrolysis.
