Abstract
The 2,732-acre (1,106 hectare) James F. Dubuar Memorial Forest serves as a year-round, outdoor classroom for undergraduate students attending the State University of New York—College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Recent revisions to an existing management plan aimed to improve the coordination of roles and responsibilities among the departments charged with managing the forest. The new plan also includes tools that help guide the siting of academic exercises, research and demonstration areas, timber harvests, and recreation activities. The plan is structured into three components—strategic, tactical, and operational—and deliberate connections are maintained among all three. An enduring contribution of the plan is the establishment of the Dubuar Forest Management Review Committee. The committee meets regularly to review requests related to the forest and to formulate annual work plans that are consistent with long-term goals and short-term objectives.
